    C4 Hood Prop/Strut Survey

I know I promised no more surveys, but here it goes.
I am trying to establish a time line for the date code on the C4 Hood Prop/Strut in relation to the actual build date. I have come across some date codes that didn't quite match up with the build date on the door jam.
I am enclosing a photos of the upper part of the Hood Prop/Strut which discloses a Julian Date Code of 0513. This translates to February 20, 1993.
I would appreciate any response from the membership concerning the Julian Date Code on their C4's in relation to the build date on the door post.

    Hey Pat !!!

I wasn't looking in the right spot before when we just talked ! Here's the date from a 96 coupe in our shop today. VIN # 5530 built 10/95. Date on strut is 2685. It helps when I look at the right number !!!

      Re: C4 Hood Prop/Strut Survey

Tom, thanks for the response. The 2685 date code translates to September 25, 1995. That is right in line with the build date of October 1995.

I should have pointed out that the Julian Date Code is located on the second line right after the word STABILUS

The first line contains the part number of 10175784.

Thanks again for your help, as you always do to members on this forum.

Hi Charlie, my 96's support date is 1516, which I think would be May 30, 1996, and the build date is 6/96.

I like your surveys, they help me learn new things about my car, like finding out for the first time that my support is dated.

Pat, thanks again for your help.

Dave, I sent you a PM as my response was quite long and I didn't want to bore the other folks on this Forum.

              Re: C4 Hood Prop/Strut Survey

Bill, thank you for your input. Prop Julina Date of January 2, 1992 on a build date of 2/92.

What is surfacing is that the build date on these props are at least one month from the build date of the Corvette.

Dave, thanks for your informative input.

I just got my original '92 struts back from being recharged from LST Technologies in Canada. I haven't installed them yet, so I can't tell you if they are as good as new, but thought I would post in this thread on original struts. Thanks to Tom Barr for referring me to LST.

Keith, thanks for the information from your 94.It appears that a one month lag has been documented on this forum and through a lengthy off line conversation with Dave Perry.

Dave was also kind enough to offer comments and thoughts as to what happens to donor Corvettes that sit at a dealerships.

I want to thank the members of this forum for your time and effort.

Hi Charlie: Here is another strut date for your C4 Hood Strut Survey. My 92's door build date is 6/92. The date on the hood strut is 1642 which I think is June 12, 1992. I am attaching a photo of the strut.

I would like a co-copy of the PM you sent Dave Perry. I am interested in what the two of you have discovered. Thanks, John

You are right, Dave, this thread has taken a weird turn and, frankly, I'm not really sure what you guys are talking about or concerned with.

I'm somewhat confused too. I don't understand how looking at a member's car before judging can be negative for the owner or the judge. If it's wrong, it's wrong, Right ?? I can't imagine declining to look at a car if the question or concern was in "my area". I'm not really into the judging thing, so maybe that is why I don't understand.

Not trying to start an argument, just trying to understand the direction the conversation and this survey has taken.

Yo Folks, I am the guy who started this thread and I am totally confused as to where we are now. I initially was trying to determine the date codes on the hood props. There is no reference in the 94-96 Judging Manual to date codes on hood props. As I was assisting at the Mason Dixon Chapter Meet this past March, it was pointed out to me that there is a date code on the hood prop and it is judged. When I got home I examined my hood prop and found out that it had a February 1993 date code. The problem being that I have a August 1994 build date on my 1995. I was trying to determine the time span between the hood prop and and build date. Dave Perry asked on this Forum if I had a problem with date codes on the hood prop.

At this point in time I had no idea who Dave Perry was and only that he was trying to help me out and that is one of the purposes of this Forum. The reason I sent him a PM was that I wanted to explain in detail that it appears that the hood prop on my Corvette was a donor prop as my Corvette had sat at the original Dealership for 16 months prior to being sold and that I had determined that the original ECM had been donated to another Corvette. I didn't want to bore anyone here with all these details, which had no bearing to establishing a time span between the hood prop and a build date and certainly was not doing anything on the sly or getting secret information from Dave that would have an impact on my Corvette. I had no idea he was a judge prior to me asking questions about the time frame between the hood prop and the build date.
I had no information that he would Judge my Corvette at anytime and quite frankly, I have already had it Flight Judged and it received a 99.
Therefore, I am not trying to do something that would help me out to receive a higher score, I am just trying to participate in this hobby.

I have been a member of this organization for over thirty years and this path of this thread has really amazed me.

My understanding about PM's was that they were just that.

I also am amazed that this thread has taken this route.

As far as I am concerned, this thread is dead.
