    Why the Blurred Columns??

There has been much discussion regarding the blurred columns in the Shipping Data article in the last restorer.

OK most believe the info in the blurred columns will never affirm a real car, but it will help confirm real documents. I wonder how much is being held back from us???

Some have said there are IDENT numbers, Invoice numbers and Shipping Dates in the columns the NCRS has secured. These numbers are unique to the original paperwork of the car and do not reveal any equipment or real information about the car. OK, but what if someone had an original tank sticker for a 1967 small block and decided to build the car into a Big Block and have a bogus tank sticker made using the same IDENT number on the original tank sticker. How can NCRS then not confirm its original if these numbers do not somehow identify what the car was originally built as at the factory??? For example I own a 1970 350/350 Corvette and have the original tank sticker. If I decided to clone it into a LT-1 and have a bogus tank sticker made using the same IDENT# from my original paperwork how would NCRS know from the data in the blurred columns that my car left the factory as a L46 not an LT-1??? Someone please explain!!

    Re: Why the Blurred Columns??

The data columns that are blurred DO NOT CONTAIN any info that would indicate what options are on the vehicle. There is nothing to prevent someone with a legit sticker to build a big block out of a small block. Be forewarned though that there have been large judgements against individual selling counterfeit cars and representing them as real. Way up in the six figures. Anyone contemplating building a car might want to rethink that idea

Thanks for the great explanation Dick, yet I have to say it is not the answer I was hoping for!! I was hoping you would say there is possibly more data within the shipping reports that would indicate how a car was born. Engine size, paint color etc... I also have a few other Corvettes with Zero Paperwork, and would love to be able to confirm how they left the factory!! Hopeful thinking on my part I guess!!

When I was a director, I got to see part of one page of the report. There is NOTHING else on the sheet other than what has been talked about. Wish I was wrong, the search for the "Holy Grail" continues

There is a discussion on CF about fake docs. If anyone can't understand why NCRS is keeping those lines blurred, then reading this thread may help provide the answer. Of course those docs are for display purposes onlyhttp://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...mentation.html
