    Advance weights for 1111093 distributor

Are the advance weights on a 1111093 distributor anything special? I have one that appears remarkable original but the advance weights have holes in the ends that look as if they were manufactured that way. I can add a pic if necessary.

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Steve,

    I assume you have a 1965 Corvette w/SHP 396 or 1966 Corvette w/SHP 427 (1111093 dist.).

According to my 1966 & 1967 Chevrolet Parts Catalogs the 1965-66 Corvette w/SHP 396,427 used distributor # 1111093. The weights used in this distributor as well as my 1966 Corvette 327 (300 HP and distributor # 1111153) are GM # 1881371 in Gr. 2.388. This is part number is also confirmed in my Delco-Remy Service Parts Catalog.

Enclosed is a tracing of a 1881371 weight. They seem to be quite common.

      Steve,
My experience with distributor weights is that both types (with and without holes) have been seen in units.

I don't know the p/n associated with them but my sun distributor machine will prove out the design curve.

Generally the production pieces (weights, springs and ring stop) are slower than the book specs. Combinations of different weights and springs can be made to be more on spec.

I have a pair of weights stamped "37" (for GM # 1924737) with the extra hole (tracing shown in the photo) from an early 63 Corvette distributor ("1111024" and "2 J 20"). I also have a pair of NOS 1924737 weights which also have the "37" stamping but do not have the extra hole.
These weights have a slightly different shape then the 1881371 weights as they should.

It wonders me what the build process was on these distributors, did they just put them together with the engineered weight/spring combo or would they have tested them and adjusted as necessary to perhaps compensate for manufacturing tolerances in the components? I would assume not but who knows!

          Thanks for the replies,

            Steve -

At 1500 per hour, I'm sure all they did was a random sample audit to verify conformance with specs.
