    1955 hood pull

My hood pull is so tight I can barely pull the hood open. With wires disconnected from female latches, pull moves freely and smoothly. female hinges when pressed by hand rock back and forth freely and smoothly. When wires are "locked" with wire nuts, the problem is apparent. Very very stiff. If I close the hood, near impossible to open. Any thoughts?

since i have been refreshing my engine bay
        i had the hood off
and the female hood catches as well
my vett has had the pull handle open the Left side only
and i have to reach under the dash and pull
on the cable itself to release the Right side.
it has always done this and i have never fixed it
as it all works pretty easily.

it take it that Both side are supposed to come open
when pulling on the one knob

Yes. Both should open either with the single knob-late design or the double knob. It appears that I have repro male pins and springs, the springs are much stiffer than stock. I cut out a few coils and the hood pulls open much easier. Gotta love the crap repro parts.

OK Gang. I think I figured this out. First I completely removed pull wire assembly from the car. I checked both female receivers on firewall to be sure they were operating freely and spring tension was good. I then took 3 in 1 oil and soaked the wires end to end. I let it seep into the wire winding and then thoroughly wiped down the wires to remove all the excess oil.I also put a very light touch of lithium grease on the pull just below the knob and worked it into the assembly and wiped off the excess. When I reinstalled, I left about an inch of wire wrap exposed on each side before locking down with wire holders to firewall. I made sure pull was pushed all the way in before I put the wire nuts on the wires right up against the receivers. Shut the hood and presto, it worked smoothly and flawlessly. Amazing what a little lube can do.
