Sealant on C1 rear axle mounting plates?

I am putting the rear axles back in my 1961 posi rear end and noticed the service manual recommends "sealant" on the axle mounting plate gaskets. Can some one tell me what I should use for the "sealant" on those gaskets, permatex or something better out there today? Should I apply the same "sealant" to the differential gasket prior installing it into the housing? Thanks in advance for your help!

John, I would think the pematex would work if you have it. or even a little tube of gasket maker- just skim a coat.

I just but the rear of my 60 back together. I used the Permatex High Tack gasket sealer. I put it on both sides of the gasket, stuck the gasket to the housing, then slide the axle and retainer plate into place and bolted it together.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try the Permatex "High Tack", that sounds like a reasonable approach to seal that joint. I may use the same thing on the differential to housing gasket as well.
