I am putting the rear axles back in my 1961 posi rear end and noticed the service manual recommends "sealant" on the axle mounting plate gaskets. Can some one tell me what I should use for the "sealant" on those gaskets, permatex or something better out there today? Should I apply the same "sealant" to the differential gasket prior installing it into the housing? Thanks in advance for your help!

John, I would think the pematex would work if you have it. or even a little tube of gasket maker- just skim a coat.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Sealant on C1 rear axle mounting plates?
John,
I just but the rear of my 60 back together. I used the Permatex High Tack gasket sealer. I put it on both sides of the gasket, stuck the gasket to the housing, then slide the axle and retainer plate into place and bolted it together.
