    Midyear PV side window tests

Can anyone please describe to me the common test procedure for the midyear side windows during the performance verification? The PV manual states checking for excessive wear and free play in the regulator. I'm looking for a more detailed explanation of real-world process to check. Also says windows should appear tight and weatherproof. Is fully sealing at the same time on both the outer door felt and the inner on the door panel required?

I am replacing the vent regulators now, and it's a "while I'm in there" thing so I <hopefully> don't have to come back to this.

    Thanks!

pv judge will check play on the regulator by opening the vent window half way then while grasping the window glass , will see how much play is in the regulator by moving the glass back and forth. i usually allow for 1/2" of play(measured at the window glass edge).mike

While you're in there, take off the door access panels, locate the window mechanism, and spray white lithium grease into it. Work it up and down until smooth. Also spray your inside door latches on end of door. Better yet, take them out and soak off the rock hard dried grease and lube them. Anything that moves, slides, or rotates, lube it!

Thanks for the replies Mike and Dan. Mike, I'm focused on the side windows, not the vent windows.

Outside of the good advice given here, I'm curious what the judges are looking for on side glass. There seems to be a lot of data out there on the vent windows, and I'm addressing that, but I don't see much of anything on the side glass test process. Thanks!

Erik, smooth operation up and down, NO binding. Also check upper and lower stops and rubber bumpers etc. for correct adjustment.

Also, the integrity of the 'fluting' in the pot metal of the crank handle. Does the crank handle install rather firmly to the window regulator's steel crank shaft or is there appreciable 'slop' between the crank handle and the window regulator shaft resulting from years of rotation and side loading...

Perfect Jack, Erik, the main thing is to make sure each component in the doors is as close to new as possible. The key lock, inside lock, cranks, door release etc. must all work perfectly. Take this approach for each area of the car, take a Malox, and have fun!
