Adjusting the Driver Side Window Glass

Just replaced my driver side glass and I'm having trouble with the adjustment of the glass. I'm sure that you are thinking why the need to adjust if it worked with the glass before. I also had a new convertible top installed and the glass just barely touches the glass at the rear corner as it closes. I need to drop the rear of the glass and leave the front the way it is. I have the AIM but it is not helping. I checked the archives, too.

Can someone outline where all the adjustment are on a early
C-3 window? I may have done all the adjustment I can with the glass and may need to take it back to the top installer. Thanks for any help!

Re: Adjusting the Driver Side Window Glass

Lemme see. On the front and rear verticle track there are adjustable stops that control the height. At the bottom of the track there are adjustments that will move the glass in or out at the top.. First adjust your glass so that it fits the windshield post. If you cannot get the glass to fit the top with the front fitting the windshield post, it is time to go to the top. The convertible top is very adjustable and usually is fairly easy to adjust.

Terry I will take a stab at this..not sure if the late 69 door is the same as yours but here it goes..one thing I wanted to clarify is that at the beginning of the post you say the back barely touches the top..then at the end you say you want to drop the rear and keep the front where it is..well I assume you want to raise the rear to touch the top of the conv seal..either way its just one thing to use..in the middle of the door on the door panel side..not the inside of the door..rear area is 2 small bolts with a track hooked to it..it raises or lowers the window..or levels it..if you loosen the 2 bolts and push up on the rear one and tighten it..it should move the back corner up..if you want it to go down push the bracket down..I had a heck of a time getting all mine adjusted since the top was put on to far back..I moved the top foward and had to move the glass all over the place..yes it took me a while to figure it out.. but its similar to a Honda dare I say..and I worked on them for a good bit of years..one thing I did find was that everytime I moved one thing it changed something else..so I realized to only move things a little bit at a time..then it finally made it to where it should be.

Good advice from above, I mean on the post. I had a hard time adjusting mine also. Did you get one of those dated new glass windows that is flat across the bottom or the contoured origional style ones? I put that new style in and decided to go back with my origional window, that (maybe me) messed up my alignment. As Rich says a little adjustment at a time is good advice. With an A/C rag top all my cold air, what little there is, was all going out that space at the rear of the top drivers side.

          Hi Dale and All,

Thanks for everyones advice. I think I can live with the adjustment now.

To answer Dale's question about the glass, I bought an original off ebay. It was much better than I had in the car. Someone before me had replaced the glass with tinted and non correct date. The person also glued or epoxied the handle on to the window crank regulator shaft. After that came off, I see that I will need to put a new window crank regulator shaft in. It is all chewed up. I see that Paragon has a service to rebuild the regulator. Anyother ideas?

          Thanks

To add on to what Dick said, each soft top rear post can be adjusted slightly (in-out & fore aft). Also, each side rail has a minor adjustment to 'telescope' its overall length.

So, these final fit adjustments can be a bit tricky and iterative! But, don't tackle the problem thinking ALL of the adjustments lie inside the door and it's all a matter of adjusting the side glass...

Foregot to mention, the Chassis Service Manual has a fairly good step by step list on page 1B-8. That's for the 68, yours is a 69???. If you need I can try and XX you a copy. Copyright, maybe I could mail you the pages?

                Terry,
I found by accident that Corvette Central has a tech section on their website and have step by step adjustment procedure with large photos of the actual part they are adjusting on a C-3. Its really good and a picture is worth a thousand words sometimes.

Thanks for everyones comments and suggestions. With everyone's help, I think I have adjusted the glass as much as I can and now will have to have the convertible top installer make an adjustment or two. I'm waiting for the new regulator shaft to come in. That will make cranking the window up and down much easier for final adjustment.
