    Fuel Line JM vs AIM

For the 68-69 fuel line clamps the JM p87 calls for the duel line return to have the small tower clamps at the filter and the tank whereas the AIM calls for all to be the spring type clamps. I think I have seen reference to this on the board and both or either were correct and even in mixed combinations, is that correct?

I can tell you this: my 1969 was originally delivered with spring-type clamps at ALL positions. The fuel return line clamps were dyed red and the fuel line clamps green.

The fuel feed line clamp on 68 and 69 would be a spring type green in color. In 68 the return line had the tower clamp style and 69 used as Joe stated dyed red spring type clamp.

Dale do you have a 68 or 69 I can tell you for 68s it is typical to see the small tower clamps on the return at the filter and 1 at each end the the return line. Then on late 68s it could become a mixed bag and also on early 69s then the 69s went to all spring clamps. That is what is typical there maybe variables but this is what is typical.

Remember when you view your AIM you are looking at the manual with all the engineering changes that have accumulated over the production year. Early car mid cars and late cars may have a lot of little differences. That is why the Judging Guide is a living document as we learn we adjust.

You can not depend on the configuration drawn in the AIM to be accurate on fasteners and small parts. You have to identify part numbers and their configuration in order to be accurate. The guys who drew the AIM were not the installers and the installers didn't care if the picture showed a hex head screw or a Philips head screw -- they put in what was beside them on the line. The guy who stocked the bin put in what the part number was supposed to be. And it didn't matter to either of them what the configuration of the part was -- so long as it fit.

The same was true of clamps. It didn't matter that the picture showed a tower clamp, a spring clamp or a side-screw clamp. The installer put in the part he was given. The drafting guy updating the page may or may not have taken the time to up-date anything more than the part number when changing the drawing. That screw or clamp configuration may not be up-dated until the next time the entire page was re-drawn -- and maybe not then.
