    85 MPH, Texas speed limit

    Don't know if my 4:11 gears will let me drive in Texas with the new speed limit.
    Oh, for an overdrive in my original '67.

    3.36 gears will make your car a lot happier at those speeds.

          I always thought 85 was the minimum speed limit on 35, 635, 30 & 20 in the metroplex after 4 pm

          Never drive the ole 396 w/4.11 that direction anymore

            What's the story on this? What roads, etc.?

            Might consider a move there.

              Ever been to west Texas? Out in the middle of nowhere, you have a long way to go and a short time to get there.

                Dennis;

                Not since 1963 when I was stationed at White Sands and had my then new 63 Vette. We went to El Paso del Norte almost every Friday night on the desert highway. I guess running 130 through the Fort Bliss section wasn't too legal then or now.

                  On the news last night, it was interesting to hear the representative in the Texas legislature justifying this rise. The districts in West Texas are so large that the elected cannot visit all their districts in a reasonable amount of time.

                      85 sounds pretty good and in west Texas I usually drive 80 on the long, straight roads, looking out for rabbits and coyotes. I did alot faster in my youth in Indiana. Here in east Texas it is a different story, and as Carl noted in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. We have a 2 lane, no shoulder, 5 mile stretch between our house and a small nearby town. Speed limit is 70 mph. I counted 6 crosses. Considering the lack of good driver training teaching how to actually handle a car, or pickup, and a gross lack of driver ability this can't be good if it passes. This is brought to you by the state lawmakers who are also trying to pass the lawful carring of guns on college campuses. I guess the question is "What is the need"?

                          Chris Rea sang all about it on a 1989 album. (although he's a Ferrari guy). Y'all come!

                              Summer, 1967 -just turned 21 - LA to Vegas - increased revs to 5000 on the 3.08:1 axle 327/340 HP SWC when I crossed over to Nevada, which had no speed limit at the time - 130 MPH indicated, no traffic.

                              ...made the approximate 40+ miles to the Strip in 18 minutes.

                              It doesn't get much better than that. It's what high powered sports cars are all about!

                              The only better time I had on the road was the two Silver State Classic Challenges I ran in 1989 and 1990. First year the '88 Merc 190E 2.6 five-speed maxed out at about 132 @ 5100.

                              The next year the Saleen Mustang I prepared and drove made high 150s at 4500.
