Look What I Found On The Pass Footbox

I decided to clean up the fiberglass under the car (1963 Coupe), before putting on a new exhaust system, and while scraping the passenger side footbox, I uncovered what looks like a "55" in white crayon. It also appears that someone in the distant past, had also tried to outline it in red crayon as well. None of the undercoating that I scraped off really adhered to the numbers so they show up nicely on top of what looks like original blackout paint. What do you all think?

The car was assembled on October 16, 1962 according to the shipping data report, and I was wondering if there are any other 63's out there built in the same general time that would relate to this job number. I'm goint to leave it as is and just finish cleaning the area around the numbers that aren't painted.

Tom, go to the C2 registry and you can look to see if anyone with about the same VIN has posted there job number. I recently posted mine on my mar. car Also if you have not registered your car its a good time to do it.

Tom. Nice discovery. That number is the body job number. I wouldn't be surprised if the same number appeared on the inside of your doors (covered up by your door panels) and on the rear bulk head (covered up by your gas tank). A. O. Smith cars also used job numbers but the A. O. Smith number is preceded by a letter. As I recall, the job numbers for St. Louis cars went from 1 to 500 and then started over again. A. O. Smith cars started at A1 to A500, then B1 to B500 etc.

      Enjoy your ride.

My coupe was built Oct 10 as per the calculator but may have been assembled be a day or so later and has a body number of 569 and a build number of 343. EW is also written in crayon and it may or may not be a worker's initials. Any EW written on your car?

body number 593 was built 10.12 and assembled either 10.12 or 10.15 as per note from Noland.

Well, just a thought of what EW "might" have stood for.
