Rear Brake Line

Are the steel rear brake lines supposed to have spring armor? The one on the passenger side of my '71 has one and the one on the driver side does not. Thanks.

I'm guessing you're talking about the caliper lines on the rear trailing arms.

As I recall, the armor was added to these lines some time after 63 and before 70-72...check your judging manual to confirm correctness. The fact that your 71 has one armored and one not, says your car received some brake work that included a new caliper line, and the caliper line used was correct for an earlier car.

There are several ways this could have happened, but probably done by an owner/technician more concerned with function than original appearance.

Rick on a 71 would expect the lines not to be armored.

The original rear brake lines on my original owner 1969 were NOT of the armored style. However, for many years most, if not all, of the lines sold in reproduction were of the armored style. So, I would expect that the armored line you have is the replacement. Both styles are now available, though.
