    C1 speaker grill attachment

I sure have alot of questions this morning, here is another one. On my 57 restoration the upper speaker grill, (colored black with the plastic fake chrome that attached with clips to the grill)....I cannot see how this is held firmly in place to the dash?? Am I missing a piece that goes between where the speaker mounts and the back of this grill? Can't see anything in the AM.

    Thanks'

as i recall the bottom of the screen has a slot between the screen and the chrome bezel that slides over the fiberglass and drops in place and kind of wedges in tight, no tools or fasteners required

Yes, I noticed that but it is not very secure, maybe a little adhesive needs to go in that slot??

There are 2 little green push-on clips that attach the bowtie emblem to the black grill. The same fasteners attach the chrome bezel to the dash. There are cast-in studs on the bezel that go through the black grill and the fiberglass. I believe there a total of 7 fasteners. 2 for the bowtie and 5 for the bezel. Don't loose them, they can take wings very easily. I just did this a few months ago. -Dan-

Hi Dan, I understand how the clips etc work, that is not the issue, how does the unit in it's entirety held in place?

Any chances of a photo, having the same mounting problem.

Interesting. I put mine together about 2 months ago and it was pretty much a no-brainer. Are you sure your dash has not been modified in some way?
How did the lower 2 metal grills go in? The tabs just bend over the fiberglass structure.
Does the bezel have the studs and are not broken off? The bezel and grill go in from the front and through the the fiberglass dash structure and then the push-ons. Going through the dash structure firmly secures the assembly.
How about the radio power unit mounting clips? Should be 3 sheet metal U-nuts that clip into the fiberglass. Do you have them okay, as they clip into the fiberglass structure.
Trying to remember exactly how it goes, but the old brain doesn't work that way any more. Can you post a photo? If I had it apart I would click a pic for you, but I have it all together right now. -Dan-

Hi Dan, the lower screens went in fine and are secured with the bend over tabs. The upper screen bezel does slip over the lower part of the dash but there are no pins or posts around the edge of the upper screen to attach any clip to, to secure the upper portion of the screen. Also it appears that none are broken off and the AM manual does not show any for whatever that is worth?
This particular car was so abused and discarded in the past there is no telling what parts are missing in this area but again the AM does not show anything in this area, at least that I can find.

                Thanks

                Ken

Hi Ken, Does the back side of your bezel have 5 small cast in studs, about 1/4" long? If I remember correctly there are 4 around the outer perimeter and 1 in the middle of the lower center bar. Can you post a pic of the backside of your bezel? We'll figure it out yet. Something very basic missing here. -Dan-

Ken, there is an exploded view of it in the AIM. Up front, section B, sheet 3. Not a really good view, but may help. Also Corvette Central has a view of it, abet not very good. Search on P/N 521003. -Dan-
