    Paint Seminar Cincinnati Chapter

On Saturday April 9 The Queen City Chapter hosted a paint judging seminar at Columbia Chevrolet which was put on by John Ballard.
Excellent presentation of information covering early GM paint processes and materials and how to achieve an acceptable paint job using todays materials and technology.
Thanks to John, Joe Eyl, Joe Sieve and Columbia Chevrolet.

Bruce, I would love to learn what was discussed at your seminar. Ironically, I recently started a thread questioning the correct method for painting my 65.

What did John have to say about best type gun and gun inlet pressures?

When I spoke with him in Waco years ago, he favored using conventional siphon guns with low(?) inlet pressure for modern products...are his thoughts still the same?

            Bruce,

John has three posts on the forum, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for his response. One would be better served by attending one of his seminars. Some things just do not translate onto the Internet, and paint and the skills to do it are among them.

Having attended many paint seminars, and having tried automotive painting myself, I can testify that attending seminars will not provide you with the skills needed for basic painting, not to mention achieving the look of lacquer.

Without burning up thousands of dollars worth of materials, and making about a kazillion mistakes (and learning from them), seminars are mostly interesting entertainment for beginners regards painting skills. To make urethane look like lacquer, you will likely have to already be a seasoned painter. But, hope springs eternal...I'll avail myself of every seminar I come across.

                  Chuck,
You didn't say how much the Internet has improved your painting skills. My statement was comparing the Internet to one of John's seminars.
