    Wheel cover paint, '66

Looking for a rattle-can paint recommendation for '66 wheel cover trim color & gloss between the spokes. Judging guide refers to color simply as 'charcoal'. Does anyone have a favorite that resembles original? Is there any metallic content? Thanks.

I used paint I got from LI Corvette Supply. Looks good, but my car is not for judging.

Jeff, I purchased my wheel cover paint from LIC. The paint they sell is made by Seymour paint products. The color is very close to the original. The application of the paint is the most important if you are going to get your car judged. Just spraying the paint on the wheel cover is not going to do the trick. The judges like to see a textured finish. After you have the wheel cover polished tape off your areas. The next step is the most important that I found through trial and error. The trick is to get the wheel cover as warm as you can. I have access to a down draft spay booth and on the baking cycle is when I spray the areas with the paint. The paint does not bubble up but the paint dries so fast that the paint does not have time to flow out. Hence the textured look and feel.

          Jeff,

You might consider taking a look at Duplicolor HWP102, graphite. Mimics cove color nicely. Advanced Auto or O'Rielly's shows to handle this as a stocking item.
