    Spring Ring Battery Cables

I getting ready to install a new pair of spring ring battery cables. In order to compress the spring I was just going to use a pair of channel locks. Is this the appropriate tool to use or did GM have a specific tool for installing the cables?

    Thanks---Mark

    Mark,

I have used a small pair of channel locks for years without any problems,
keep them in the glove box in case I ever smell smoke!

      Carl,

To each his own,but wouldn't a knife switch disconnect from NAPA be faster and easier? As an added bonus, you get extra judging points!

Be careful not to over do it with the pliers. The directions say to expand the spring rings as little as possible.

There are special pliers specifically for the spring rings.

            Joe,

Agree, but you still have a spring connection on one post.

I place the spring connector on the post and carefully expand the opening till it slips down on the post - that's the reason I use a small pair of pliers to not be to agrssive !

Thanks for your responses. I will go with one knife blade and the gentle use of a pliers on the remaining spring.
