Speedo and tach, sealant or spacer?

Between the outer metal bezel and the lens on the speedo and tach there is some gooy stuff in three spots. I could be some kind of sealant or rope caulk or it could be a rubber or foam rubber spacer. I don't see it in the catalogs I have on hand. Can anyone tell me what it is and suggest a source? Thanks

Originally there were gaskets used. The gaskets were GM #6480860 but they are long-since GM discontinued. Dr. Rebuild to the rescue! His kit #9749005 will provide ALL the gaskets you need for the instrument lenses for less than 20 bucks.

What I need are not gaskets and are not in the Dr rebuild kit. The paper gaskets go between the lens and the plastic part of the speedometer. These spacers (which might just be gooy sealant) go between the lens and the metal bezel.

I don't think that any sealant, gooey or otherwise, was used. What you may be seeing is foam rubber seals which often deteriorate to a black, gooey substance over time (sometimes, not too much time). I have no information that the foam rubber seals were ever available from GM. However, I thought they were included in the Dr. Rebuild kit. Do you have such a kit and confirmed it does not include the seals you seek?

I don't have the dr rebuild kit but it says that it is a five piece kit and I can identify all five gaskets depicted in the catalog and the pieces under discussion are not among them

The parts I am seeking are in three separate places around the perimeter of the bezel (near the screw locations) It looks like their function is to keep the lens pushed against the gasket on the other side (of the lens) and prevent it from rattling. I may just cut sections of an oring of the correct thickness. I *think* I recall replacing these on another 69 vette that I had but that was 25yrs ago.

I agree. You're looking at the results of age. When you get to the center cluster, you are likely to find the same goo - five places, if memory serves.

I had some small diameter hose which appeared to be about the correct size for the seals. Snipped off the individual lengths required and used that.
