    C2 ignition shielding

I just received 2 pieces of restored ignition shielding that I purchased from an ebay vendor. The peices are for a small block, right side, and are stainless.
Both peices have the appearance of being chrome plated as they have a brilliant shine to them, however when I spoke to the Vendor he assured me that he had polished them himself and that they are not chrome plated. I have compared them with my original unrestored shielding which has a duller appearance.
My question is should the stainless right hand and top shielding pieces have a brilliant chrome appearance shine to them? Is it possible to over restore these stainless pieces?
The Vendor was most gracious and offered to take the pieces back if I was disastisfied in any way.
    Any thoughts on this?

Neal, on my 1966 small block 327/350hp the right side has more of a shine then the left side. All the ignition shields are magnetic.

Consult your Judging Rreference Guide for finish requirements. Buffed atainless will almost look like chrome plate but it will oxidize over time. If you want to expedite the oxidation and make it match your other shielding, put them in a diluted muratic acid bath for a few minutes.

Then follow up with a freash water rinse followed by a swim in water with baking sode added. I use 1lb soda to 4 gallons of water. This will neutralize the acid.

Repeat this process as required until you are happy with the match.

OEM RH (passenger side) horizontal shielding pieces are not stainless; rather, they are mild carbon steel with a thin flash plating much like the LH & RH verticals. The LH horizontals ARE stainless ... in a magnetic grade that is probably type 430. If both are in "new" condition, the plated RH pieces would appear considerably brighter & shining when compared with the stainless LH shields.
