Dang it! Where do I get this wire connector?

So the wire connector on the end of the 2 green positive wires that connect to the positive terminal on the ignition coil finally fell off. It's holding on by like 1 strand from only 1 of the wires.
Does anyone know what hardware store or where online I can buy the correct lead? It's a U shapped connector lead that is crimped onto the bare ends of the 2 wires. I need it ASAP but can wait if I have to get it online...

    Thanks!

I am certain that this connector is available somewhere.....

But I would simply take my time and reuse the original. I have done this many times.

Use a small bit of black shrink wrap on the wire to connector joint and it will look nice, and will also look fairly original.

Hmmm. So maybe just work on it with a ice pick and open it back up to re-crimp onto the wires again after I strip them down a bit? Worth a try, thanks!

A picture might help, but I dug into my print file and I can tell you that what you are looking for is a "Terminal" original part number 272531, later replaced by part number 8900331. The exact part description is "side spade" terminal. If you have a friendly dealership around, they may have one in the "small parts kits" they keep under or around the parts counter.. Depending on what is wrong with yours, it may be possible to reuse it with some finesse to get the old wire bits out so you could solder the wiring harness leads to the existing terminal. Otherwise good hunting!

Go to any gas station . Not a convenience store type, ask for one. Bill.

Yes, that is the way I have done it. Can even use a very small drill bit and drill through the old wires to get things started for the ice pick. Then solder, don't rely on the recrimp.

HVAC and electric motor repair stores/businesses should also have these. Many motors use the side spade terminal.

Oh yeah! I'll try the place that rebuilt my generator and starter for me!

Re: Dang it! Where do I get this wire connector?

A few weeks back I had the same problem and I reused my original one.

I used a small cutter/nipper and a pick to open up the compression portion. Takes some patients to do this. Also hold the spade with pliers so you do not stick your fingers. Once open this allowed me to insert there-stripped wire end and compress it. I also slipped on a small piece of black shrink tubing the same length as the one that was there.

Really hard to tell I repaired it.

Re: Dang it! Where do I get this wire connector?

I spent some time last night and I was also able to reuse my original. I looks just like it did originally. I used an electric stove top to melt the wire and solder out of it then used a small jewlers screwdriver to open it enough to slip in the newly stripped ends and I recrimped it. It's a very good crimp and they definently aren't going anywhere.

                    Thanks!

Got to this same part - coil installation today, but the clip had been crimped many a time before and the tang fractured off when eased up. Any good sources?

Re: Dang it! Where do I get this wire connector?

I have not found a good source for side spades, and if I did it probably would not be very correct anyhow. Amp and Tyco are 2 possibilities. With side spades there is also a left and a right entry.
I have been doing some wiring work on my 57 over the winter and have wrestled some with wire connectors. One possibility is supply houses. Corvette Central for one sells a replacement green coil wire lead that has side spades on both ends. It is a rather expensive way to get 2 connectors, but it is a way. To use re-use these spades requires un-crimping of course. Releasing the insulation crimp is quite easy, it is just rolled over. But the wire crimp is a double, 180* rolled over crimp and is very difficult to release. That makes a very good crimp that will not fail, but copper/brass work hardens very easily and it is very easy to break the tangs. It is also not correct as original factory crimps are just flattened over.
If you can, try to reuse the original terminals. I have not tried this, but I would think you could anneal the terminal by heating it, which will let the tangs bend more easily and not break. It will also burn off a lot of the crud and old insulation. They can be easily cleaned with a wire wheel and then re-plated tin-lead with just solder. The original finish appears to be tin-lead plating. Also, solder the wires after crimping, as I do not trust any re-crimp done without the proper tools. I have had lots of failures over the years. -Dan-

                            Ron,
Is this the terminal you need ?

Mine looks different but its probably not original.

Was there a difference in this coil lead from the C1 to C2, and specifically 1966-67?
