    1960 Seat Belt Material

Was there any other GM vehicle that used the 6 weave belt fabric? If there was any chance of going through a salvage yard that is full of vintage cars and finding a 6 weave belt, I would do so.

    Joe -

I don't think you'd really want 50-year-old webbing in your seat belts...

        Joe,

The six panel fabric might be on an old Chevy passenger car if the original owner asked the dealer to put in seat belts. But most dealers installed Brownline belts that used a waffle pattern. I don't think seatbelts were standard equipment in passenger cars until the early sixties.

Seatbelts were standard equipment in Corvettes in 1958. I think the only cars that you would find 6 panel webbing installed would be the 59-61 Corvettes. By 1962 Irving was using 4 panel webbing, Later years changed again, but never went back to 6 panel design.

John's post is very true for used seat belts. UV will have sapped the strength out of the webbing and stiching. The only 50 year old belts I would feel safe with would be NOS ones protected from sunlight.

I think decent reproduction 6 panel webbing can be bought. Call Charlie Santorelli and see what he can come up with. 908-719-2354
