ship corvette across country w/o rear suspension and driveline

Does anyone have any recommendations about how to move a C2 across country when the car is in the middle of restoration - driveline is out, rear suspension off, steering out, engine out ...

The POD moving companies won't allow automobiles in the PODs.

Discuss your problem with a trucking company. Make a skid/pallet that can be lifted by a fork truck and strap the car to that. The skid would need to be loadable from the end unless it is shipped on an open trailer where side loading is possible. Make it strong enough to withstand repeated handling as most loads do not go coast to coast in the same trailer.

Sounds like it would be easier to simply bolt the unrestored rear suspension and steering box back on so the car could be winched on to a conventional car carrier.

This sounds like the best way to do it. But you have to have a good strong cradle and make sure the Corvette is snug but not too ridged. That way the cradle and the car can be ship with out the Corvette sustaining and stress cracks.

That other idea in to rent one of those "Pods" moving containers and make sure it 18 feet long and then slowly load the body and frame into the container and pad any tight spots and then just ship the entire container to the very address you have in mind, just like you'd ship you furniture to your new house.

If you could get the steering box and all 4 wheels on it can be moved on a regular hauler, but they will charge a "non-running car premium". I moved a '63 from LA to Detroit on a conventional hauler. You could steer it, but the engine did not run, there were no brakes and the rear spring was out so it was sitting pretty low. When they loaded it on they put it in front so it didn't have to be moved until they pulled up in front of my driveway.
