I don't think that the value of the car applies to antique plates. At least I have never heard of a state where it did. Now if you choose to run regular plates I would suspect they would use the collector car guides put out by NADA ect.

I showed a friend the post and asked him how to stop my email. He said "You didn't really send that email to him ---- he stopped and said "I just got a double April Fools, didn't I?" I smiled then he said "You ^%#%$&%!

This one was not very funny to me as it could easily come to pass with the idiots we have in government today. I don't consider my 63 a collector car anyway. It is just one I bought new and hung onto cause I liked it, and I liked taking care of it. I know what the value is, but don't expect to deal with that issue in my life time. Rather, that will be an issue for my heirs. If my wife survives me, well, then I want her to have the cash as she never wanted to ride in it anyway, say nothing about drive it.

Good April fools joke, but too close to impending reality for our wealth transfer misguided unamerican souls. If something like this was ever implemented, I think I'd just load it with plastique and let them have it (on April 1st).

They are getting their ideas from other parts of the world where these taxes are real. Rich tax if you have a house valued over 20k, cars taxed via the plates and insurance at 2x of what we pay, and wages, if you make more that 25k, 60% taken by the thieves.

Better start kicking these yahoos out, might be late to stop it.

I can answer your question..I got my car from WV..they have that tax there..what the PO told me was that every year he got taxed on 6% of the NADA value of the car..the low end being around 28k..he begged the tax people to use that number and not the middle number that they usually use..I have his renew paperwork from May of last year..he wanted to sell the car before it was due..so I got him down in price of the taxes he was going to pay in a few weeks if he didn't sell it..so I know at least my PO paid almost as much in taxes as he paid for the car in 15 years!

Just remember what happened with the boat building industry when they implemented the luxury tax during the Clinton administration. The big buck boat mfg. went to Asia and the craftsmen and surrounding industries were ravaged here. The car restoration hobby/business provides an ever-growing source of jobs and taxes. Legislation and taxes create a dynamic environment, not a static one. Unfortunately, they calculate on the latter and not the former. We must support our special interest lobby.
