Anyone have a real original big block ignition shield, looking for pictures, of originals, back side. 1966 preferred, thanks.

This is off of my 67. The lower left part of the plastic has been changed. The rest of the plastic and shield is original. I think it has had glue added to it.Bill

Ron -- to allow us to rationalize the GM prints in Noland's book, could you please take more pics (or as a minimum least another in the tach cable area of your interest) from the outside/backside ? [the one you posted is kinda small and is a view from the inside of the backside]. Full front and back would also help; that is, if you have it in-hand.
I'm interested in the evolution of this surround shield over the three C2 BB years.- Top

For those pics within the text, I use a hosting site (Photobucket, in my case -- free), and then link to them in the NCRS text message -- it autoloads, and better still, doesn't hog the NCRS servers.- Top

Wayne,
This PITA picture is of the back side of a reproduction. It shows a partial circle and then the rest is notched out.
Note the print is showing a circle - radius.
I have a couple of original 66 shields that have had bubba mods, or so it would seem, perhaps not as bad since one early part looks similar to the one you posted the other day for '65.Attached Files- Top

I wish more people would respond, as my curiosity is piqued for the '65 BB designs. Maybe after this thread has run its course, I'll start one for the tach cable opening for the '65 396.- Top

Re: Big Block - Any one have an Original...
Wayne - I send that wish.
Perhaps in the meantime Joe will be able to tell us a little about that part number history.
You have to figure that any mods were due to people timing these engines and most probably had the distributor gear off by a tooth, whihc put the tach cable into the shield, but that does not explain the difference to the drawing and or this other part number in the system.- Top

Wayne,
Back before the repop world and NCRS were paying attention to these big blocks, the late 70's, while restoring one, I happened to snap a picture of a friends' at Bloomington that year. The photo I'll have to peel out of this old album and scan, but the notch out is distinctly rectangular similar to your '65.- Top

Ron,
I found my shield this morning. It's original as far as I know. I'll take a picture of it over the weekend and post it here. I'd be ashamed to post a pic of it as it sits because it's pretty dirty. What would be a good way to clean it up and make it presentable?

Here's an example of very late L78 car, now owned by one who frequents this board. Late style large keyhole; question is: what size and shape is the tach cable cut-out on the back ?Attached FilesLast edited by Wayne M.; March 31, 2011, 10:21 AM.- Top

Re: Big Block - Any one have an Original...
Wayne, that's a good one, but I bet if there was a demand for it, duplication would be easy, just as that example shows...so who has to go look at the back side that that car? Make sure to brush those NOS leaves out of the way- Top
