1962 340 HP Distributor Ignition Shield

I can't get the ignition shield to fit over my 340 HP dual point distributor. On the back of the distributor, closest to the firewall, one of the point adjusting windows in the distributor cap sticks out and prevents the shield from slipping over the distributor.

Do I have the distributor in wrong (misaligned)?

Consider the face of a clock on the centerline of the car, with the firewall at 12 o'clock, and the front of the car at 6 o'clock. Where are the point adjusting windows supposed to be? I have the tachometer take-off positioned at 12 o'clock.

If the distributor were rotated so that the tachometer take-off were positioned at 1 o'clock, the window may be out of the way. But the tach cable would be crimped, and the other point distributor window would be blocked by the intake manifold.

I have run into that situation on my 62 in the past and I just pull back on the bottom of the shield and it will fit over the metal window in the distributor.
You could "clock" the distributor around to get the door away from the back of the shield but I personally don't think it's worth the effort.

i agree with bruce. a little tug on the back of the shield provides enough clearance to install the shield.(make sure the little pink wire has has clearance from the shield when you're done.)

Bruce; Wayne; thank you for the reassurance. That's what I'll do.

One more request. What is the position of your tach cable? Is it right on the centerline of the car? Or, off to one side?
