    Question for John Hinckley

    John:
    Just curious has your "other org." namely Camaro.org ever approach the GM
    Heritage Divison to see if they have the shipping data info for the Camaro's;
    like the Norwood Plant? If not will they?

    Larry -

    We haven't yet, but we're considering it; the Camaro records are a whole different animal, though - just '67-'69 is close to a million cars, from two plants.

        Thanks; will be waiting in line for them when it happens.

          Some Chevelle club would have to step up and pay for the Chevelle data to be extracted from ALL the Chevrolet data. For Corvettes it was relatively easy in that there are two body styles and one assembly plant. So one searches for 19437*S and 19467*S.

          There were something like seven Chevelle plants and how many different body styles? Consider six-cylinder and V8 and El Camino and maybe Monte Carlo if you want -- and then there is 2-door coupe, convertible, and sedan and 4-door sedan and then 2 and 4 door station wagon. That is a lot of different than Corvette. How many million is that from 1964 to 1972, and of course some would people want to continue beyond 1972.

          Do you think ACES will or can do that?

            Terry makes a good point. It cost several thousand dollars to convert the Corvette data from microfich to digital, and there are still quite a few vins that there is ongoing work trying to retrieve data from the damaged films.

            I cannot imagine what it would cost to do the Camaro or Chevelle records, $10's of thousands of dollars.

              ... and even after it's done I don't think folks are going to have the sort of information they really want. Namely, what options a particular car was originally built with.
