Thought you fellas might like seeing one of the sterlling silver nameplates issued by Corvette News for owners of 1953 Corvettes. It was issued to me in 1973, and I don't think it's spent more than half an hour out of it's case in that time. I'm sure it's one of the very last nameplates issued by Joe Pike and Corvette News. Never say never, but it is likely the only one issued on the proof of a frame tracing rather than a VIN tag tracing.

I remember the Corvette News search for '53 Vettes. That you still have the '53 you owned when the search was happening is just too cool. Congratulations on being a part of history.

Thanks Jim! I saw one in '77 but can't remember the fellow who had it. Without digging out my CN's was this issued about the time Chevy restored the '53 and featured it in CN or did they do that for '78?

No Steve, Corvette News did this in the early 1970s -- 1971 or 1972, IIRC.

Very Cool Jim. I remember the search. A guy named Ed Thiebaud owned vin number #003. Wonder where his plaque is ?? Thanks for letting us go back in time.

Jim, what's really neat is not just me still having the car, but 2 other local fellas that still have their cars and got their nameplates from Corvette News, and their duplicate nameplates are on the plaque that hung in Chevrolet's Central Office in Detroit. We were together at a car meet this past summer for the first time in about 37-38 years. Together I think we have about 130 years of consecutive 1953 ownership.

Steve, I'd have to get out my old CN too, but I think they ran the article on the restoration of #255 I believe, in the late 60's. According to the great article written by Al Hill titled "The 1953 Honor Roll" in the Spring 2005 Restorer, it was the Dec/Jan 1970 issue of CN that had the article on the 73 cars and owners that responded to the survey. Then in the Dec/Jan 1972 issue of CN there was a follow-up article on 107 cars that were reported.

Found my Corvertte News June/July 1969. Asking for all 1953 Corvette owners to send in their 53 Corvette information, funny how granny with the squirrel rifle was guarding the 1953 Corvette in the barn.

Found my Dec/Jan1970. Still looking for the Dec/Jan 1972 Corvette News. I have it somewhere.
