Soft top installer - Ohio

I have the new top. I originally planned to tackle the job myself. I've since decided to let someone do it who knows what they are doing.

Can anyone recommend a good installer? I'm located in the Columbus area but don't have a problem going outside Columbus for a good installer.

kiamy upholstery shop in piqua,ohio. he is very particular. not cheap. but does a fantastic job. he does a ton of high end restoration work from all over. 937-418=1523

Hi Dan,

I'm currently having my '68 convertible top installed by Rob Landers of Cars Plus in Xenia, Ohio. (937-372-4591) He has sanded and painted the convertible frame and made a couple of rust repairs before he put on the new weather stripping. The new top is next. He has many years of experience and is excellent to work with. He does a number of the Corvette convertible tops in the Dayton/Cincinnati area. He is a very nice guy and reasonably priced too.

Dan,

Did you happen to buy the top from Al Knoch? Maybe you know this, but he brings his installer(s) to the major shows. If you make an appointment with him you may be able to get it done this way.

Dan if you elect to attend a function where Al Knoch's installers will do your top, make sure you keep your receipt to show them that you purchased the convertible top from them.

Thanks for the idea. It's an Al Knoch top but I bought it through another vendor. Do you think they would still install it?

I would think so, but that's just a guess. Why not call Al Knoch to find out for sure?

Hi Dan,

If you plan on ever having the car judged, you might want to have an experienced midyear judge (based on the car in your profile) look it over. Al Knoch has tops and he also has tops for NCRS judging. It would be unfortunate to go to all this trouble and expense and not have a top that is correct. There are a couple of extra things that Al sells such as the correct windlace and date code that will make your top much more correct.

I see you are a member of the Heart of Ohio Chapter. We have a number of midyear master level judges who could help you at a meeting or judging school with your top.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was going to contact Al Knoch to see if they will install it even though I bought if from another vendor but was curious as to whether anyone has done this.

I think I have the proper top for judging but would appreciate knowing for certain. I will bring it to one of the local chapter events.

Some interesting comments in this thread. I am about to order an Al Knoch top from Wilcox Corvette.
If I read the above post correctly Al Knock makes different tops, and the one on sale through Wlicox may be different?

If you wanted to travel to Carmel, Indiana call Warren Mockler @ 317 844 8378. He has done several tops for me and a lot of others and have passed NCRS and BG with no problem.

What are people paying for a mid-year top installation? I got a quote from a local shop; $400 - $500, which I thought was high.
He told me it was a full days labor to install.
