Does anyone have a diagram of the spark plug configuration for a non-HEI distributor for a 74 454? I have conflicting diagrams from Chilton's, Clymers, and the GM Assembly manual (I would like to believe this resource, but engine is definitely missing with this configuration). I don't find any obvious markings on the distributor relative to cylinder/wire placement. Thanks for any advice.

Re: 74 Big Block Distributor
Jack, when I purchased a set of reproduction spark plug wires from a very reliable source, they came with an excellent diagram of placement on the distributor and the engine. If you were to send me your email address I'll attach it and forward it onto you. I'm not sure how to attach it to this site. Ray- Top

Re: 74 Big Block Distributor
Jack,
'74 big blocks have the same firing order as any other year.
If you've just installed new wires and they are not in the same towers as the old ones, and irrespective if they agree with any of your manuals, the timing is now off by a considerable amount and the engine will not run properly. Your choices are to either move the wires to match the old ones, or remove the distributor and then align the rotor to the correct tower.- Top

Re: 74 Big Block Distributor
Thanks for the responses. The wiring diagram showing attachment of the spark plug wires to distributor is what I was seeking. I have three different resources that give differing diagrams (some based on whether the distributor is HEI or not - mine is not). The picture of the SB distributor is the same as my BB distributor with the adjustment window at about two-o'clock looking down on the top of the distributor from the cowl forward with the vacuum pump at approximately five o'clock. I currently have #1 attached behind the window at three-o'clock which would be one position off according the the SB picture. This all started with a short in #8.
Raymond, if you could send a copy/picture of the diagram you have from the purchase of the wire set to me at jacbgc@aol.com, I would appreciate it.
Again, thanks for all the input. All of the knowledge, expertise and willingness to help is what makes this a great forum.- Top
