    NOS Camshaft 3927140

I found this NOS Camshaft that my dad bought in the early 70's. I did some searching on the web and it shows it to be for 69 302 with the cross ram set up. what really is it. and a value of it. thanks

The GM 3927140 was a wonderful cam. For racing! Beyond that, it only has value as a collectible piece of GM racing history.

It was originally designed for the late production 67 Camaro Z28 with one 4 bbl., and was specifically designed for open header SCCA road racing.
It was later used for 68 and 69 Camaro also, with the 2X4 package.

It had/has a very "peaky torque curve" that makes it nearly useless for closed exhaust street use. Flat until about 4500 RPM, then stump pulling power to about 7800 RPM.

The "140" cam was only available through service and never installed in a production 302/Z28 at the factory.

The GM #3927140 was an over-the-counter only, SERVICE "off-road racing" camshaft once available for 302 cid engines (and, of course, also usable for other small blocks). It was never used in a PRODUCTION engine.

By the way, the "cross ram" manifold was also an over-the-counter only SERVICE manifold. It was never supplied on a PRODUCTION Z-28. The above-referenced camshaft could have been used on an engine which also used the "cross ram" manifold, or not.

I have the #140 cam in one of my 327 engines GREAT with a set of 4.11 or 4.56 gears.

As previously stated, the ...140 cam was designed for racing - specifically it is the "first design" Trans-Am racing cam. (There was a subsequent "second design" that was more radical.) It is a very poor choice for a road engine.

I'm not sure if an original NOS GM version has more intrinsic value than the exact duplicates that are still available in the aftermarket, but it may be an interesting curio.
