62 - Does this look like an original battery bolt?

Does this look like an original battery bolt for a 62?

I only have the bolts, and not the wing nuts. Does anyone have a picture of an original wing nut?

    Thanks,

    Tony

    Tony,

It resembles an original but, at ten inches long, I'm not sure of the actual application. Originals are a tad under eight inches (see pic) and they are 5/16 threads. If yours is 5/16, you could cut it down and add more threads. But I'm curious to see what others will say it might be before I'd recommend cutting it down just yet.

Late 62's used a wing nut, but I don't have an original.

      Tony,

Where did you find a 10" long bolt? Which vendor sells that?

Have you installed it yet over a Group 24 battery? Is 10" too long? Bob says they're supposed to be 8" long. I'm wondering which is correct.

Reason I ask is that the "J" bolts I have are too short. Barely enough room to get the wing nuts on. I'm wondering if that's correct. Longer bolts would make it much easier to install. Even if the longer bolts are wrong, I'd consider buying some.

        Christopher,

They were on my 62 when I got it. I do have a repro battery, and the bolt is definitely long. I could easily cut off 1".

I am not sure if it is original, or not.

        Regards,
        Tony

            Christopher,

Unfortunately, the originals were about 8 inches and as you note, they are a bear to put on! I used my one original and cut-down repro for a while and then switched them out for a pair of the repros that are maybe 8.5" and I didn't cut them down and they are easy to get a nut on.

That being said, the shape of the repros is very close to the kink on mine and Tony's. I'd recommend to Tony that he just get a pair of the repros from Zip, CC or wherever and use them as-is. That 10-incher is puzzling, so I'm still hoping someone can shed light on it. Other than the extra two inches, it looks correct.

Somewhere in the past 50 year someone must have gotten tired with trying to get the 8" on, and stuck these in there.

Thanks for all of the info.
