    63 fuel pump mounting plate

Is the fuel pump mounting plate engine orange, or something else?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    I believe it is natural.

      Chuck -

I agree - virtually all I've seen have been natural. Hundreds of raw iron and steel parts were received in the plant, and only those shown on the "Painted Parts List" were paint-processed in the plant prior to delivery to the line.

The "Painted Parts List" was issued by the Chevrolet-Central Office Paint Standards Department to the Paint Superintendents at each plant, describing each part that was to be painted, and how each one was to be processed. Unfortunately, those were internal documents, and none have survived as references; we have to depend on observations of known-original cars in order to make judgments on finishes as-shipped from the plant.

I agree with John and Chuck. These plates, installed at St. Louis, were natural steel. I think that GM figured there would be enough oil leakage from the engine to coat the plate and "permanently" protect it from corrosion. If that's what they figured, they almost invariably got it right.

            Phil -

I remember them rolling down my Engine Dress Line when I was a Production Foreman at Willow Run in 1964 (when I started at GM), and for many years thereafter.

              Thanks Guys,

I had one natural and one painted, so I was confused a bit. Luckily, the the car with the natural one was not being worked on and the painted one was already off of its engine for refinishing.
