Help to figure out my stamp pad

I have a 66 roadster that has never been restored to my knowledge. This is a base 300HP 4 Speed car with no other options. Anybody care to take a guess at why the pad would have this stamping? I'm not sure why anybody would bother to restamp a motor in a low option car that has never been restored. The block is casting #3858180 with a date code of September 1965 and the car was built in January 1966. I have attached a photo.

      Jeff -

Most likely a replacement engine from another car that was rebuilt prior to installation, and the machine shop stamped their rebuilder code and the "HE" suffix on it after decking it. That casting number wasn't used in '66 Corvettes (and was VERY rarely seen in 65's).
