Decoding a line on a 67 tank sticker

I'm helping a friend decode his tank sticker because he is wondering if the interior color has been changed. A line item on the tank sticker, in the lower part of the document, lists the following code: 02Y78BP. To the right of this code is a partially obliterated line, but I can see the word BLUE. Can someone decode the 02Y78BP for me?

    Thanks.

Re: Decoding a line on a 67 tank sticker

Tony -- I don't know if anyone has decoded these Dow-Smith options on the '67 tank sheets, near the bottom, in the Comfort & Con. section, but they follow the format 02Yxxyy, and seem to repeat some of the body equipment in the top section. Noland has an A-body example on pg 45 of Vol 2.

I have an S-body example from a L68 which repeats nothing from the top section in the C & C section, except the "02L68AA CONV 390 TO 400HP" line.

Not much help, but maybe someone can decode.

      Tony,

Are you sure that the 02Y78BP isn't the trim code for the car? if you replace the "Y" with a number you would have the body number of a convertible with hard top excluding power windows, headrests, shoulder belts and Powerglide. Is the car an early car? My car is 72XX and is 02414HP (shoulder belt, Hardtop), excludes power windows, headrests, and Powerglide. By the way mine is Blue

      What is the serial number?????

Keith and Wayne. Thanks for your thoughts. As you both know, I'm more of a '65 guy than a '67 guy so a tank sticker is not what I typically run into. Here's what I've learned: 02Y78BP is for dark blue vinyl interior. 02Y78BP = 02418BP. Considering exception letters "BP", the car is a hard top convertible without interior options.

Last week I got a call from a guy whose life long dream was to buy a nice C2. He tried to do his due diligence, but just didn't understand the "complexities" to finding a real car. He ended up buying a '67 convertible with a vinyl hardtop. Pretty car. The problem: the car has a switched trim tag. I examined the trim tag yesterday and told him the bad news. I believe that the car was born silver with a dark blue vinyl interior. The fake trim tag calls for a Lyndale blue exterior with a tuxedo interior.

Hopefully he can get his money back and return the car.

Thanks guys for your help. I look forward to seeing you at Novi.

Keep in mind that Dow-Smith printing on the trim tag won't look like a St Louis trim tag.
The reason I wonder about a switched trim tag is that a Dow-Smith trim tag means the car wouldn't have side exhaust or be a big block and they were on strike from Oct-Jan, so any cars built between those dates would have to have a StL trim tag.

The "02YXXXX" codes on the tank sticker for an A.O. Smith-bodied car were generated by A.O. Smith as financial/accounting codes from the original internal scheduling order from Chevrolet; they were used to pay A.O. Smith for each body, based on that body's style and body-related option content.

None of those codes identify any chassis or powertrain-related options, as A.O. Smith didn't need them - they only built the body.

Re: Decoding a line on a 67 tank sticker

Thanks Guys. The issue is a fake trim tag. I've gotten the alpha numeric codes decyphered from the tank sticker and it helps confirm the fraudulent trim tag switch. The car was born with silver pearl paint with dark blue vinyl interior. It now has a trim tag (and is presented with) Lyndale blue paint with tuxedo interior.

The dealer/seller has ten days to make things right; otherwise, it'll be "shock and awe".
