In my opinion, the WIX is, by far, the better of the two filter brands you have available. In fact, of all major brand filters on the market today, I think the WIX are the best.

Specialty brand filters, particularly synthetic fiber type, are likely better. However, I don't think that any of these are available for the canister type filter used for all C2.

Given my widespread interest in cars of all types, I participate in a lot of forums on the web. The overwhelming opinion on most of them is to avoid Fram filters like the plague. These forums are full of horror stories about mishaps with Fram filters, and there were even a few "anti-testimonials" by form Fram employees. I'd check this out before using one.

Yes, WIX definitely offers the canister style filters. That's why I recommended that you use that brand when I assumed that you used a canister style filter with your C2.

It's the specialty-brand, synthetic media filters that usually do not offer a canister-style filter.

Since you have converted to use spin-on type filters, I would still recommend that you use the WIX filters. If you wish to use a synthetic media filter and you have a canister style-to-spin-on adapter which uses 13/16-16 thread size, then I would recommend an AC PF-35L.

            Claus,

WIX filters are regarded as the best. In my area you see these used more in commercial and industrial applications than in cars. Consequently, they are not sold in the discount auto stores. We have to get them from a parts store or order them on line. Thier filter media and bypass valve construction is superior to others on the market.

However, FRAM is also a good filter. I have not seen the negative comments that Dennis mentioned. I'm sure that Dennis is right about those comments, but I have used FRAM filters for 40 years, and used up to 35 filters a year and I have had no problems or other issues. In addition, FRAM filters are highly rated.

I'm sure that Fram filters are satisfactory. If they were not, they would not meet manufacturer's warranty requirements and they do meet such requirements.

However, having "dissected" many different brands of filters, I can tell you that I was not impressed, at all, by the Fram filters. Instead of using steel end caps on the filter media, they use a "glued on" piece of some sort of fiberboard. I prefer the steel end caps.

What you want to order is the Baldwin B6 spin on filter.
The Baldwin B7 is longer, holds 2 quarts, but may be too long for your application.
I use nothing but Baldwin cartridge refills for my canister, at the suggestion of a well known contributor, here. I am and have been satisfied with them. Dissection has shown steel end caps as well as sturdy construction. They are made in USA, as well.

The Baldwin is a good filter, but I don't think it's any better than a WIX. Also, I would never use a 2 quart size filter on a Corvette. AC Delco also makes such filters for heavy duty truck and industrial engine applications and has offered them for many years. I would never use a filter longer than a PF-35 on a Corvette. There's very little, if anything, to be gained by doing so and the risk of damage from road debris is too great to chance it.

Baldwin canister. For spin on, Royal Purple is the best.
