    C-1 convertible top lid

    Here's a dumb question:
What does the snap on the vinyl "tabs" on the convertible top lid snap to? I've heard that the only purpose is to hide the top frame from view when the top is down. Is that correct? Also, do they attach to the lid with sheet metal screws with dress washers?
As always, thanks for your help.

    Richard,

According to the JG, "...these end straps attach to the top of the door lock pillar at the outer edge of each seat back. The fastener on the strap is a slotted channel design, not a round strap."

You should have a round male end of a snap on your rear door pillar (chrome finish). I "slide" mine over the male part of the snap located on the pillar, as it's easier than trying to actually "snap" it.

The JG does not specify how the other end of the strap is attached to the lid. I forgot how mine are done, but I think they're attached with screws and dress washers (my car's not here right now).

More function than fashion--without them, with the top down, you get a significant whistle at speed without them.

Thanks guys. Does anyone have a picture or sketch of the snap location on the rear door pilar? When I got my car, they were not there and, I guess puttied over. I now have repros but don't want to drill a hole in the wrong location.

Here is what a 62 strap with slider snap and snap look like.

Hi Richard, I am restoring a 57 right now. I still have the old tabs. I'll take a few pictures next time I get to the car. It's at the shop. Probably Friday, if that's not too late for you. Regards, Susan

Hi Richard, I have a few pictures for you. What's your email? I had the hardtop on my car so they don't show the attachment under the soft top lid. But hopefully they'll help. My car is on its way for an undercarriage steam clean. When I am doone with that I can pull the top and get some photos under the lid. Regards, Susan
