1957 FI serial # on unit vs VIN

I am looking at a '57 FI car.

My question is it has a serial number of 1360 on the FI unit , but it is a early car VIN under 00700. (it is a part #7014360)

Is that a normal since they just started making FI cars in '57?

Do you have a copy of the 56-7 Judging Manual? There's a FI unit to VIN # relationship table on page 59. 4360 FI units serial numbers start at 1000.

There are other important numbers iIn addition to the FI serial number; air meter number, fuel meter number, distributor model # and date.

FI units numbered after 1240 were produced starting in Jan '57. That's the 360th unit on a car VIN # 700~. IMHO that's too early of a car for that high of a FI serial #. That equals every other '57 to VIN 700 would be FI. Probably didn't happen.

Sounds like a possible Dealer service replacement, whole unit swap out.

i agree with gary. vin 700 with a 4360 snof 360 unusual. my vin 1098 has 4360 sn 069.mike

For what it's worth my 57 sn 0809 has a 4360 sn 1136 (unit #136) and the plenum is also steel stamped 1136 on the back.

I was under the impression that FI serial numbers were not necessarally used in strict numerical order.

Bruce, Kayser found docs that said of the 240 FI units produced in 1956, at the end of the year 88 (IIRC) were at Flint uninstalled. Gary....
