    57 Restoration Questions, misc

I am trying to bring back a basket case of a 57 to NCRS standards and I am not experienced in vettes until this. So I am sure I will be asking lots of questions. For starters:

what is the modern equivalent for compound 3686628 that was put around firewall grommets? Any advice on how the factory applied it?

same with compound 3710409, the black goo on the heater box seals?

With a radio delete car, 1) how many ground straps and where, I think just two on the engine. 2) how many capacitors and where...ignition switch, regulator, etc

Any source for the black cardboard with logo that goes behind the speaker grill on radio delete cars?

    Thanks!

    Hi Ken,

Firewall compound is the black duct seal, monkey dung, whatever you want to call it. All hardware stores have it. Not sure about the heater stuff. I used black RTV on mine.

Radio delete should not have any capacitors, I believe. Look in the AIM, that will show what went in for the radio option. Just leave those caps out.

There was a thread on speaker cardboard not too long ago. Look in the archives. I don't think there is a source, and not much is known about it.

Good Luck with your restoration. Post some pics! -Dan-

Also known as 3M Strip Caulk. Comes in black and white and is available in most parts stores and all auto paint stores.
