C1 Oil Filter Canister - Restore or Reproductions?

This is for a 60. I have what I believe is an original or at least early canister, but it would never pass judging as for condition.

I see that Paragon offers a restoration service, or I can get a reproduction. I suspect the restoration would cost as much or more than a reproduction.

Anyone used one of these GM licensed reproductions? How does the reproduction fare in judging?

    Thanks,
    Don Harris

The repros look fine. The silk screened label looks as it should, but I have never had it judged. What I can say that may enter your decision process is that the gage of the metal used on the drawn shell is much lighter than original because the original tooling is long gone and that used by Paragon can not handle any metal that heavy (thick) as the original. I doubt a judge can "ding" it to tell the difference, but you never know. My concern, silly as it may seem, is a concern for road damage because I've seen it happen.

I believe you'll find the reconditioning option the best, but probably the more expensive route.

Ken Hansen (731-783-0815) does an outstanding job restoring original canisters (with silk-screening, not decals).

I'd stick with a restored original.

Agree. Ken did mine a few years ago and did an outstanding job.

I give a 3rd vote to Ken. Supper restoration for a fair price.

BTW Ken did 4 or 5 cannisters for me all perfect.

Kudo's to Ken, he did mine also. Super guy to work with. Let Ken do your original, you won't be sorry!

                  Thanks,

I spoke to Ken yesterday and will be sending my cannister to him for restoration.
