The only chance of finding that revision date would be if someone has an original page. Mine is first generation from microfilm.

That seal is one of my favorite items to judge along with the sealant used over the firewall grommets. I have to admit I did not know the seal was added during the 1969 MY. I am glad you asked the question.
    Terry,
Could you elaborate more on the sealant used over the firewall grommets? Which grommets get the sealant? I checked a few of the grommets in the 69 AIM and didn't see any mention of sealant. What is the modern day replacement for this sealant? Do you have any pictures to share?
    Thanks
    Wes

      Hi Wes/Terry
Here is a pic of the sealant stuff Kool Seal Kool Patch which is very dang close to the firewall sealant. It flows, brushes on and looks just like it. I don;t know where to buy it as I haven't seen it in Canada....we don't have much here as always.
I got this from an NCRS member a couple of years ago and I forgot his name. However I share this pic on his behalf.

A pic of the foam seal???? I don't know but I think it needs to be more dense.
      Hope this helps.

Yes, I think the seals were cut from a lot more dense foam rubber. I think it's more like the foam rubber shown in the attached photo. This kind of foam rubber can be purchased in many hardware stores. Actually, I think the seals for these reinforcements could be rather easily made from this kind of material. This piece is thicker than would be required but different thicknesses are available.

          Wes,

Sorry I have to work today, so I don't have my AIM(s) with me. The grommets I am referring to are where the tachometer cable, oil pressure line and wiring goes into the interior of the car. These are inboard of the master cylinder and behind the driver's side head. A pair of rubber grommets with multiple holes for these items to pass through. This semi-liquid sealant was poured or brushed over the rubber grommet after the wires, cable and/or tubing passed through to make a final seal to keep fumes and heat from the engine compartment from the interior.

It is hard to remove or work on any of these items that pass through those grommets without disturbing this sealant. The sealant was usually put on pretty sloppily, and many folks are willing to take my point or two deduction to have a nice clean and crisp firewall. As always it is the owner's call.

When I get home I'll look up the appropriate page(s) in the AIM, but I expect it will mostly be with the electrical wiring in UPC 12, or is that UPC 11-13?

Attached are a some pictures of the sealer being used on the firewall grommets on my 68. In the first picture you can see that it has been disturbed when the oil pressure line was replaced and not routed back through the grommet by the first owner. You can also see it on the vacuum hoses where they enter the grommet in picture 2.

The sealer was also frequently used on the heater box cover if it leaked during testing as shown in pictures 3 and 4.

              Wes,
Dr Rebuild has a seal kit item no. 1014664 that replaces GM 3966668, Also the 2 nuts you need are the same flange type nuts used to secure the wipe arm trans. 3 per side. Hope this helps. I just purchase the seal kit for my project.

Now why didn't I check the Doc's catalog for this? I should have known this is just the kind of part he usually has covered.
