    67 emergency brake bulb replacement

Okay, here's another newbie asking a question. Thisis my first post so please bbare with me. How do I replace the bulb in the instrument cluster? My hand is to large to reach the socket so there must be a better way than coming up from the bottom. Thanks in advance

The easiest way is to find a friend (small guy or gal) and have them use their small hand to do the job for you. That beats the He-- out of the other method which is loosen the column and drop the cluster enough to gain access.

Thanks, plan A sounds a lot easier than plan B.

        Ron,

Best way I have found to get behind the console of my 67 is:

-Put the drivers seat as far back as you can get it.

-put a small pillow on the console, put the tranny in fourth gear so you don't bump your head on the shift knob.

-lay across the seat with your head on the pillow, feet outside the car.

-reach up behind the console with your right arm and go by feel. Oh I forgot, disconnect the battery.

You'll never be able to reach behind the console with your head on the floor.

Upon completion and replacement of the bulb, take two Advils.

Have done this a number of times for bulbs, as well as the speedo and tach cables. Always had a need to take the Advils after.

Thanks, big hands and all, this worked. I'm getting old so I took the whole bottle.

Be sure to use the correct bulb. Earlier years used a flashing one but I think 67 is non flashing. Either way it is best to be sure BEFORE you do it. Don H.

Thanks Don, with some research I found the bulb is a 257 flashing bulb, Thanks for the heads up.

                Ron,

My memory is telling me the 67 Corvette uses a 257 flashing bulb for the headlight light tele-tale and a non flashing bulb for the emergency brake warning.

Ron, now that you have experience replacing the instrument bulb, you may need to do it again. As Tim stated; the flashing tele-tale bulb #257 is for the headlite closed indicator.
The e-brake lite was changed in 1967 to a non-flashing bulb #1816 because the e-brake and the "new in 1967" brake "fault" switch in the hydraulic system could both turn on the lite.

                    Ron,

Looks like a few more Advils.

But it always goes easier the second time around.

Re: 67 emergency brake bulb replacement

Thanks every one. You are correct on the replacement and the fix to my Corvette Problem. The funny thing is you can't fix old age. My problem was the Headlight bulb and not the emergency brake bulb. I don't know why I posted this as "emergency brake bulb replacement" when in fact I really needed to replace the Head Light bulb. The good news is that I replaced the correct bulb in the correct position and I won't have to go back and do it again (at least right now). I ran out of Advil so I can't do it again.
Thanks for keeping an old guy straight.
