'72 350/200 fuel pump fitting and orientation?

What is the fitting size on the stock fuel pump? 3/8" flare out? What about in?

What is the outlet orientation of the fitting supposed to be?

Standing at the passenger side of the car, facing the fuel pump, looking down, would the correct fitting location be angled at approx 1 o'clock?

The pump in the car now has the outlet fitting angled at something like 11 o'clock, maybe 12 o'clock.

The thing Paragon sells as a replacement pump isn't even close, for fitting size and orientation (outlet at 9 o'clock), as I choose to not necessarily need an AC logo or correct PN, but want something that looks correct and not have to change a bunch of fuel lines around.

I do see the AIM shows a 9 O'clock fitting outlet , with a 90 degree adaptor fitting, then the fuel line, but even that arrangement won't mate up to the fuel pump to carb inlet line Paragon sells.

Any suggestions on a pump that will work, other than the $150 *correct* one?

    Thanks,
    Doug

The fuel inlet nipple on the pump is designed for 3/8" ID rubber fuel hose.

The fuel outlet line is 3/8" and uses a tubing nut for that size.

The original fuel pump for your application was an AC type 40769. Unfortunately, that pump was discontinued by GM and AC Delco a few years ago and replaced by the AC type 41240 which was originally used for 1977-81 Corvettes. The 41240 has a shorter canister than the 40769 which may cause some fitment problem with the pump-to-carb fuel line but I thought that the orientation of the outlet fitting was the same or about the same for both pumps. I'm not sure of that, though.

If you could find a type 40769 you would have the exact original fuel pump. If that does not fit properly then there must be a problem with the line or fittings that you currently have.

I don't know where to obtain a 40769. I don't know that any source still makes that pump but it's possible there is one that does.

It does, thanks. A jpeg is worth a 1000 words.

As a side note, my '61 was somewhat of a mystery when I bought it as a basket case 37 years ago, and back then, there were no AIMs, internet, etc, and you had to physically locate a car that was put together, to see how some of that stuff went together.
