I am putting an original 6qt. oil pan on my 65 327-365.I have read that it needs a two piece rear main seal gasket included in the oil pan gasket set. Does anyone know where I can get the oem type set? Also, my 6qt. pan that I am installing has the trap door, is there a windage plate or other parts that I'll need to do this correctly? Thanks

If you're installing an original (GM #3820001) 6-quart (system) pan, it doesn't relate at all to the crankshaft rear main bearing seal, nor does it require any special kind of rear oil pan gasket; it uses the ordinary pan gasket set with the "thin" front seal.
That pan used the GM #3769768 "flat" baffle and special extended main bearing cap studs which locate it.- Top

Re: 6qt> Oil Pan
You don't need to install the windage tray, it won't hurt anything to leave it out. It would be more complete, but not necessary, you probably aren't running 6000 RPM constantly.
The Original pan does use the thin gaskets, my 6 qt service replacement pan I bought about 1985 uses the thick front gasket.

The external baffle (windage tray) is no longer available from GM. However, it's available in reproduction.
The studs required are still available from GM under GM #3872718. They cost about 16 bucks GM list apiece, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 6qt> Oil Pan
The reason the 6 qt pan and windage tray were used together was because that was a SHP motor, and back then, some people actually raced their cars.
The lack of the windage tray won't affect the oiling anymore with the 6 qt pan than having a 5 quart pan without a tray won't.
If one has the time, and wishes to spend the money to change out main cap bolts and get the tray, by all means do so; if your time is constrained, or you do not wish to change the main cap bolts, not installing the tray won't hurt anything, assuming the car isn't going to be campaigned on a road course or dragstrip.

Re: 6qt> Oil Pan
Doug,
I'm currently rebuilding my engine now and I trashed the rear main seal in the gasket set and replaced it with the FelPro #2912 seal. My action was based on discussion in previous threads on the topic and the Restorer Article from awhile back. This seal is made from a reddish fluroelastomer material instead of the blue rubber on the standard seal. It is a little firmer and more resistant to leakage.
I bought the seal from a local parts house, but it was a special order to the tune of $42. Money well spent I believe.
