1962 Top Ignition Shield - Early/Late ?

I have a used original top shield that has the right rear look of a 61 shield but I recall the TL at the '08 Florida Regional telling me it could be typical for early '62's. We were looking at a NOS shield a 62 owner had for sale I was considering to buy. I passed on it then and found a original, pics below.

The 61-62 JG does not state anything about early/late 62 usage but I would like other opinions. If it could be for early 62, is there a known date break point for it's use to the one with the notch shown in the JG? The JG photos are excerpts from Nolands book page 415-416.

Richard, both of my 62's are the same. #29 and #10975.

What you have there is the one that GM sold for 20+ years as the generic replacement piece. They were technically NORS because they were a combination that wasn't right for anything, but fit everything. I'd strongly disagree with the team leader on his take on it, if in fact, he said what he did.

Ok Thanks guys for clearing this up. That NOS shield we looked at then had a few "features" that the TL mentioned were a bit non-typical though. One was the apx 1/8" diameter hole on the back next to the rectangular opening for the throttle lever. He said that was "different". You can see that in the pic below. The other was the different looking weld at the top rear corners, and the many, many spot welds on the rear top seam.

I should have shown that before but now just remembered it.

So I'll bite the bullet and consider this shield I bought a few years ago advertised as a "original", is now clearly a generic piece that will become more "wall jewelry" in my garage, along with that used original 62 radiator stored for 20 years in a barn that is a great sieve for straining pasta.
