Re: C2 Hood hinge mounting Pad - Cracked
Epoxy here is a waste of time.
You need to grind out the entire crack. "V" it out good and mix fiber glass strands and rosin to fill in the area. Make sure to get enough area so you do not get it re-cracking again. Pack good to remove any air. Sand smooth and repaint. Its best to do both sides but this repair it is not possible to do that.
Check the inner fender panel too where hinge mounts as this area is prone to cracking to a greater extent.- Top

Nothing is going to hold there short of taking that plug out and glassing an inside support, and rebuilding the outer surface. It just wont hold long if you dont do it right.- Top

Re: C2 Hood hinge mounting Pad - Cracked
Ron,
You can use JB there with glass cloth after grinding a little more V.
I started using JB in problem areas in the 70's and have had 100%.
I would use the slow and wet about a 1/2 in strip of glass with JB, then follow with another layer.
I use a heat gun to thin the JB and get it wet.
To stop it from sagging on the sides and keep it smooth I use wax paper over the JB and it will peel off when JB is totally cured.
If you go for another layer of glass cloth and JB then you sand the surface again as you do fiber glass resin.
Epoxy does not crack like polyester resin and will go over fiber glass.
Fiber glass is not recomended over epoxy.
Polyester resin is not as strong as epoxy resin and will crack when thick, epoxy resin (A&B) binds differently and wont crack when thick.
That is one of the reasons for the inner mold on the vette's. It is to squeeze out the excess resin as the strength is in the glass.
I went over board on the explanation as I know you already know this stuff but it's good info for the first time guys.

Ron, my two cents is, If you can acess the underside of the hood use a piece of sheet metal form it to the contour and counter sink a couple of rivits on the top, then grind them flush, and use some sort of bonding cement on the underside of sheet metal. thats such a high stress area, you'll need some sort of extra support.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: C2 Hood hinge mounting Pad - Cracked
Need some dimensional help guys...
Bubba did a good job on this one, first they missed the smaller hole for the 66 hood emblem. I could see the edge of it after grinding out all their off surface fill.
Anyone have the dimension of that hole closest to the hinge?
Next and most important, are these pads and their holes equal distance from the front edge of the hood inner?
There is a fine line I see on both sides, on this one its 1/4 rearward and seeing how they just pasted it in there crooked, I can't trust anything.
Wayne - it is all cut out now, noway it was in there close to the way it should have been, was thinking to fill it in setting the outer mounting dimensions, square to the outer side and top surface.Attached Files- Top
