    62 Spare Tire

Can someone tell me what size radial spare will fit in the truck wheel on a five or six inch rim and let the board be level like it should? Or is this just a pipedream?
    Thanks

I've always used an original or repo bias ply 670X15 on a 15X5 rim. It just fits better but even then the board doesn't sit perfectly flat. Rich

Since my '62 had after market rims and no spare when I bought it and I wanted a reliable spare to get me back home safely if something happened, I went to a salvage yard and got a "new" space-saver spare (called a convenience spare) for a 1988 Monte Carlo SS. The size # on the sidewall is T125/80/D16. I have an '88 Monte and tried that spare on my '62 to be sure it would fit. The bolt pattern is the same, it fits down into the trunk's wheel well so that the cover fits as it's supposed to, and there is plenty of room for an after market scissor jack and T-bar. It was very inexpensive compared to buying an original wheel and tire and gives me the peace of mind I need on a road trip.

This is a question I was going to ask at some point tho I want a bias ply spare to go with my radials . Was told by Coker tire here in town that all repo bias ply tires mount up with diffrent dimensions and to bring the car down and they would mount up some until they found a perfect fit . Rather find out what others have found that fit and buy that one . Stan

          Terry,

Maybe......... Don't pump the radial spare up too much so it fits under the board. Carry a 12v air pump if you ever need it. Seems when ever I check it, the spare is usually down to 11psi anyways. I always carry a 12v pump and tire repair kit.

For tire sizing I use this handy tool.... http://www.powerdog.com/tiresize.cgi

Plug in the sizes of choice and it'll give you all the pertinent dimensions to help match which may fit in the spare tire well.

There are lots of tire size calculators on the web. The one thing most can't tell you is the width when mounted on a specific size rim. I was hoping for some some actual hands on information. I have a 5 inch wide rally rim, just looking for a tire that fits in spare tire well. Surely I am not the only one out here with this problem.
