    Re: Engine stamp pad opinion

Hi Guy's Stamp looks great, yet the water pump housing in this picture appears to be higher than the pad. Maybe just the angle of the picture?? I have always been told that the waterpump housing should be flush if not a little lower than the pad. Resurfacing/decking a pad takes off material, which will make the pad lower than the waterpump housing?? Have I been miss informed???

      John,

I'll check it out on Sunday and report back what I find.

        Re: Engine stamp pad opinion

I just checked my untouched pad vs the water pump and the pump is slightly higher, maybe 1/32nd inch. There may be enough variance in the water pump casting/machining so that it can't be relied on as an indicator.

              John,

You're right, the water pump housing is slightly above the stamp pad. I only had time to glance at it. I'll take a measurement the next time I get a chance, probably on Thursday.

                Joe,

Bill Clupper told you that your stamp pad looks good to him, and I would leave it at that. Don't make a science project out of this. Your pad looks good to me also.

Even thru the paint, the VIN appears to not have been applied with a gang holder.

                              I get the joke but

                              1) the seller makes no mention of original engine or numbers matching

                              2) the numbers do match what they're supposed to even if the two sets have been transposed in position.

                              3) what does the term numbers matching mean anyway?

I think a new seller 0 feedback and selling for a cousin that does not use the internet are good for precautionary starters. Can't say for sure since the car's been apart, but looks like a candiate for the "grew 100 cubic inches after birth at St Louis club". Yes Joe like you I'm liking mine more & more each day, even if it has a little rust here and grease there.
