    202 Coils -- another emboss variant (1970s service ?)

Remember the long thread on 202 coils a month ago ? (link below)

Started off discussing whether the subscript should be 12V or 12-V. Well here's another twist, courtesy of recent eBay auctions. Two examples of coils without any voltage emboss; just the coil number. Strangely, both of these have the two tang anchor holes for the square washers at each terminal; not just the un-drilled outline.

The box on the two thumbnails on the right seems to indicate early to mid-70's; probably prior to when they started stencilling the full part # in white paint (which was early '80s, IIRC).

BTW, coil on left sold for $53; one on the right for $128.

    Wayne,

What's the bid deal with all these 202 coils that have different stampings? I have several original mid to late 1960's junk yard car 202 coils and they are all embossed "202" & "12V".

I dunno, Dave -- probably what's has already been said, ie. with about 10 million of these produced over 7 or so years [including service], on parallel production lines, there was bound to be tooling changes.

BTW, there's another NIB 202 (no 12-V or 12V) on eBay; again has the 4 hole depressions at the terminals to anchor the tabs for the connector square "washer" so it seems to have ended up with a "one design fits all' for service. Another NIB period "086" is on eBay with the holes.
