    67 Brake Calipers

    Just received 4 brake calipers from Lonestar. The cotter pins are on the outside of the calipers while the calipers currently on the car have the pins on the inside. The AIM is no help here - but a picture in Noland's book (page 261) would suggest that they should be on the inside but this picture is not of a 67 corvette (page 359 is however). Any insight here before I remove and reinstall the pins. Thanks,
    Joe

    It really doesn't make any difference, but I have always liked the head of the pin to the wheel side, so if by chance it came out, it wouldn't come all the way out.

      Interesting observation. Makes sense to me.

        My distinct recollection is that the caliper pad pins on my original owner 1969 had the cotter pins on the inside. I doubt that 1967 was any different. Also, the drawings of the calipers in the AIM show the pad pins on the inside.

          Hello;
          Wayne is correct in my meager opinion.
          We have worked on many Disc brake GM cars in our career.
          Cotter pins always on the inside for exactly the reason Wayne suggested.
          Brake pad pin will stay in place if cotter pin is lost. Although properly installed cotter pins don't fall out.
          Just my 2 cents.

            Then there's always the '65 first design pin retention clips ...

            The '65 Corvette Shop Manual, pages 5-2 and 5-3 shows the style in my photo in the link below. J.U.'s reference to pic on pg. 261 in Noland's Vol 2 is on an early '65 396 by the looks of that sway bar linkage, so I'd expect the change from "retainer springs" at both ends to be early production. Even the exploded part view in the 1970 Corvette P&A30B still shows the pin with holes at both ends for the spring clips.
