    BB Ign Shielding difference 3906149

The 66 AIM has a shield change on April 19, 1966 was 3886901 to 3906149.

Any idea what that change was?

Ron --- Noland's Vol 2 shows a vertical view of each on pg 371. Kind of hard to see the difference but there's a 0.35" radius line on the "149"; seems to be on the front lower edge [versus the non-curved lines on the "901"].

      Wayne,

Is there a chance you could post that picture of the difference?

Ron, Nolan's excellent vol. 2 book is copyrighted.

I don't think a photo posted of the age referred to would show up in a posting anyway. The image Wayne refers to is a copy of a very faint sketch. Looks like a small copy of the production drawing.

I have an original '67 bigblock shielding off a car. If a pic of it would be helpful, just let me know.

        Ridge.

Ridge, yes please, and as far as prints that appear in the book, they have shown up here before, NA can't claim copyright, GM perhaps.

Ron -- here they are; difficult to interpret as the dashed line represents the hidden (ie. backside).

As far as copyright, I think I get a free pass from Noland (see thumbnails 3 and 4 -- I'm halfway down in this partial list of about 500 contributors [however small ] you'll probably recognize other names from this DB).

Besides, we often make reference to his Vol 2 in our discussions, probably prompting participants to buy the book.

Wayne, Thank you very much! I'll study this with parts in hand this evening.

It looks like Bubba was snipping on the back radius.

Can they be easily repaired and re chromed?

or are the repro's from LIC and CC identical??

On these drawings, how do you interpret the back side radius opening???

Is it as shown a 1.5" radius, or is the part notched as shown?

Ron -- IMO, looks like somebody snipped the one side of the 1.50 radius.

Here's a pic of the backside of my 2nd design 396 distr. shield (w/larger keyhole on the front); hope it doesn't confuse the issue. Even so, the rectangular cutout on the back (corresponding to your 1.50 R half circle) is larger than shown in Noland's Vol 2 GM 1965 dwgs. So maybe there were running changes .

                      Wayne,

The picture I posted is of a current reproduction, they match what I saw as an older either NOS or repop, hard to say, all clearly stamped.

Your 2nd design 65 looks closer to another 66 I have that had a tin snip job too, at least that's what I saw.

I hope we can see another picture of an original from 66...
