    Delco Coil

Is there a chart or source of information that provides the values-specifications for Delco coils? I am in need of a 107 coil for a 1961 FI project car. (reproduuction coil last resort) I have a few original coils that I have collected over the years and would like to know if they would be anacceptable replacement coil while I am on the hunt for an original 107 coil. I am assuming that the 107 coil provides a hotter spark for the Fuel Injected engine than the 091 coil that is used for the carbureted engines.

    Thanks for any information!

    Hi Ray,
I don't have the information you are looking for but the "091" ignition coil was used on early '63s and the '64 365 and L-84 FI engine. I'm looking for one now for my L-84.

Some parts catalogs will indicate the original Delco coil number their repro coil replaces. The LI Corvette catalog shows those references but the one I have is for C2s and does not show the 107 coil, You could look in their on-line catalog for 61 and 62 Vettes and maybe find the 107 referenced to verify that it is the coil you need. Ebay may have what you need but I have not seen that reference number.

    Best regards-Doug

Hi Ray, According to the Corvette Servicing Manual ST12 on page 14-14 the specs for the 097 and 107 are the same!!!
Primary Resistance (ohm) for both is 1.00-1.16
Secondary Resistance (ohm) is 7500-10,500. Go Figure. Meanwhile you may never find a real deal 107. Even 091's are drying up but not like the 107's. The 107 started off life in heavy equipment application. It was not a coil made just for the Corvette. School buses, etc in that era used the 107. This info came from Dale Pearman an eon ago. John

Remember, primary & secondary winding resistance specs are NOT the ultimate word. Those specs are there because that was something the average auto tech could easily measure. Plus, IF the coil was a basket case (one or both sides burned out), it'd show up when you measured/verified the winding resistance.

Where the rubber meets the road is measuring primary/secondary inductance, mutual inductance and forward energy transfer. But, these measurments are generally over the head of your average multi-meter technician...

Hi Ray, maybe its me, it seems everyone has got this idea that ITS got to be a 107 or 091 hell you could put a coil from a john deer in there and drive it. If you find a 50 year old 107 and pay 500.00 for it how good is it and how long will it last. Phil 8063

                Hi! Philip

The reason for my original post is to find an alternative Delco coil for my 1961 FI project; I will not pay high dollars for a 107 coil! But, I will stay on the hunt for an original 107 coil; the hunt is part of the fun of restoring an old car. The local junk yard just scrapped out a huge collection of old school busses last year and I believe these busses are a good source for the 107 coil. Knowledge is power and I wish I had known that an old school bus may have had the part I needed a year ago.

                Thanks for the post!
