Semi gloss black area on doors

I neglected to take photos of the doors before stripping and now they are painted. Certain portions are supposed to be black. Can anyone direct me to a photo of the correct location and extent of the black? Thanks

Forward edge of door facing the door jam was shot with blackout to cosmetically 'hide' the transition from door panel to dash pad that you'd see with the door open as you entered/exited the car.

There's no way to tell you what's 'right' regarding where the blackout paint starts & stops because that was a human factors issue that varied on a car by car basis with the particular worker doing that black out task on that day. It's akin to where EXACTLY does this/that inspection sticker go...

BUT, imagine the door attached to the body, the door panel removed and the door standing open. Black out will typically extend from approximately 1/3rd of the way into the door (area that will be covered by the door panel) out, over and around the top front of the door down to roughly the upper hinge...

Mike,Go to the members list and look up Patrick Hulst , he has a web site you can click on to see many pic.s of a 5 star bowtie car. I am sure there is pic.s of exactly the black out and how it was done, Its a little hard to explain, but pictures say more.

          I don't know if this will help but it's a Jan 70.

Thanks to all who responded. I am still unsure how far forward around the door the black extends. Does it go under the weather strip(?) or was the weatherstrip in place when the black was applied?

Re: Semi gloss black area on doors AGAIN

I am still unable to find a photo of the forward part of the door showing the extent of the black paint. Was the black applied before or after the weatherstrip? Does the black go to the weatherstrip or does it go past it?

I will get the body back from paint today or tomorrow and am looking forward to beginning assembly.

              Thanks

              Mike

This photo should help. From an original late 71 car.

Thanks Terry, you have come to my rescue again. I would like to put the blackout and weatherstrip on before mounting the doors so this is near the top of my list. I plan to reunite the body and chasis this month.
